“Just because you can, it doesn't mean you should.”
This quote was voiced by one of the women interviewed for the Curse of the Competent Woman™ book. Many of us blessed with the “curse of competence” are capable of doing a high volume of great work…all by ourselves. And most of us would agree that that approach doesn't create the kind of life we really want.
The Competent Women's Forum has been conceived in response to the many women who have asked for a simple, flexible, undemanding way to stay both reminded and encouraged about ways to strengthen their relationships and reduce the weight of their expectations and responsibilities.
The CW Forum is intended to be a powerful and cost-effective resource to help ‘competently cursed' women obtain/retain the highest levels of sanity, energy, and peace as they manage their multiple roles, relationships, and contributions to make the world a better place.
Specifically, what is the "forum"?
The CW Forum is a community of people interested in exploring the Curse of the Competent Woman™ in all of its various forms and manifestations.
Currently there are 2 primary activities of the Forum:
• Two on-line discussion communities – one public and one for members only Click here to learn more, and
• Monthly, hour-long presentations with Q&A. Click here to learn more
Those who decide to become members of the CW Forum will receive…
• The opportunity to participate in the monthly, live, hour-long presentations and Q&A by Sherryl (and other speakers as appropriate) on specific topics, accessible by phone; Click here to learn more
• Audio recordings of those presentations that will be archived and can be downloaded to a computer and iPod or other MP3 player;
• Access to the ‘member only' on-line discussions , with an anonymous identity of your choice;
• Lists of additional resources and ideas provided by members;
• Discounts on Competent Woman products and open-enrollment workshops as they become available (current products include journals, pens and denim shirts);
• Ongoing opportunities to provide input regarding the on-line discussion topics, presentation topics and speakers, useful resources, and, ultimately, the book!
Will this help me at work?
• It certainly should! In our experience, all ‘competently cursed' women are leaders…in their non-work communities as well as at work. Many of the topics, skills and strategies that will be discussed are part of the executive coaching services that Sherryl provides to individuals in corporations.
Are men invited to join the CW Forum?
• At this time, men (and others who don't consider themselves ‘competently cursed women') are invited to participate in the public on-line forum. Because the issues for ‘competently cursed' women are different than those for ‘competently cursed' men—the focus for this initial member forum is women's issues. We will post the question on the member on-line discussion forum to get ideas on how to best address that issue. Maybe we will have a membership for ‘friends of the competently cursed' ;
• Additionally, it is our intent to start a similar forum specifically for managers/leaders in February or March of 2008. Membership in that forum will be open to all managers/leaders, regardless of gender.
When does it start?
• The on-line discussion forum will open on Monday, Oct. 1st at 12:00 pm PST/ 3:00 pm EST. ;
• The live presentations/Q&A will start on Friday, October 12, 2007, 9:00 am PST/noon EST.
What does it cost?
• $150 per year
What if I don't like it?
• Your first month will be a trial membership, free of charge. Should you choose to continue, your membership fee will be due on or before November 1st, 2007
• If you are unhappy with the CW Forum for any reason, you will be able to receive a complete refund any time during the first 6 months of your membership
This sounds great! How do I get started?
• Provide us your name and e-mail address(es) and we will send you an invitation when the forum goes live.
We will be accepting memberships starting Monday, October 1st at 12 pm PST/3:00 pm EST;
Please forward questions and thoughts to Sherryl or Karin
